Matthew 7:3

And why do you look at the speck in your brother’s eye, but do not consider the plank in your own eye?

Sometimes, unless we are the responsible one (i.e., the spouse, the parent, or the very close friend), we should consider staying out of other’s life “business” unless we specifically believe the Holy Spirit is guiding us to intervene.

This “peace” key alone will likely prevent strife and emotional hardship with others you know.

We often have no idea of the complexities and many variables impacting others’ situations.

We must rely on wisdom and love in order to truly help others.

Ahhhh…the comments of others.

Verbal, written, some solicited, and some not.

Comments…so freely available online in both video and penned form.

Sometimes I miss the days when I didn’t have so many comments influencing my thoughts. Back then (i.e., adolescence), there were only my thoughts to sort through – not the documented 🧠 brain activity (i.e., mental 🤮 vomit) from others’ minds. Don’t get me wrong, some collaboration with others’ comments is helpful- just not all of it. Some minds flow with worthwhile content and others, not-so-much.

For instance, when I was growing up, I would do Denise Austin workouts in the am from the Lifetime TV channel. As I grew up, I transitioned to her DVDs, then her online streaming service.

About 7-10 years ago, I perused YouTube to find her 80s and early 90s videos (Gotta’ love a #Throwback)! However, when I read the comments the first time, I saw things that had never crossed my mind…ever!

As a heterosexual female, I had not once thought of Denise Austin in any sexual way. Sure, she was beautiful and 💃 fit – but that was it! To me, she was a mother of two, fitness expert, and exercise physiologist. The YouTube comments were filled with overt sexual thoughts from men who viewed her show as some form of 90’s wannabee porn TV.

I assure you I would have been perfectly ok without knowing these thoughts about Denise.

Sometimes, access to other people’s comments (i.e., their mental discharge) isn’t helpful. In this case, it wasn’t at all.*

*Yes, I agree, that sometimes others’ perspectives are helpful. Just not always.

In other words, guard your brain. Put an invisible condom on it by avoiding reading comments that don’t help you in any way from people who aren’t interested in taking the higher road.

PS – I still do Denise’s workouts! I did one this am – early 90’s throwback!
